Roy D.
Roy has been involved with numerous boys and girls teams, in both high school, club, and provincial team volleyball. Some highlights include the 2008 BC Summer Games Zone 5 Indoor Volleyball 15U Girls team that won gold, and the 2008 Gladstone Secondary Senior Girls team that won the Vancouver City Championships and qualified for a berth to compete in the BC AAA Provincial Championships for the first time ever in the school’s history. Currently, he is an assistant coach with the Crofton House Senior Varsity girls volleyball team, as well as the Team BC 16U girls volleyball team that will be taking part in the Western Elites competition at Calgary this summer.
Roy also helps coach at various volleyball camps and clinics, including the Volleyball BC High Performance camp, the UBC Thunderbirds camp, the Pat Powers (USA) clinic, the Thunder Volleyball Academy special programs, and recently, the Team BC 16U Baden Cup selection camp. He can also often be seen helping out at the UBC Thunderbirds Women’s Volleyball practices.
As a fully certified NCCP Level 2 Indoor Volleyball coach, Roy is dedicated to increasing his knowledge of coaching in order to better the growth and development of young volleyball players. He has taken workshops with several CIS and NCAA Division 1 coaches. Roy is also a member of the Coaches Association of British Columbia as well as the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
In the past, Roy has practiced and taught martial arts for over 10 years. He has also founded a small sports and events management company. Currently, Roy is an IT management professional at the University of British Columbia. When not involved with coaching, Roy spends most of his free time playing volleyball. Other interests and hobbies include snowboarding, business and finance, technology, watching movies and playing games.
